Wilderness First Responder Recertification
Fixing a dislocated finger in the field
If your Wilderness First Responder certification is about to expire, or you want to train in Wilderness First Aid, here is information for recertifying your WFR, or for certifying in Wilderness First Aid.

Course Information:
First Lead's Wilderness First Aid/WFR Recert training is conducted over three days, from 8:30 a.m. until around 5:30 p.m. Some evening studying is necessary. This intensive 24-hour training is just loaded with information and hands-on skill sessions, with the intention of getting you competent - and confident(!) - in your abilities to manage sick and injured people in the backcountry. This training includes Red Cross Adult CPR. (See Wilderness First Aid Course Outline)

If you are recertifying your WFR status:
Beyond recertifying your credentials in WFR and Red Cross Adult CPR, you are updated on current patient care protocols, get plenty of hands-on scenario time to sharpen your Patient Assessment System tools - so you can once again feel confident in your abilities to manage injuries and medical emergencies.

If you are taking this as Wilderness First Aid, for the first time:
This training takes a huge leap beyond Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR, because it presumes that you may be all the help this patient is going to get for a while - no 911 calls and no quick trip to the hospital. So you are trained beyond "first aid" skills, to in-depth management of problems, and to keeping your patient --and you-- alive and functioning in a wilderness environment. You'll be training side-by-side with Wilderness First Responder grads who are recertifying.

Registration:
The registration requires a $100 deposit (see the WFA Registration Form), and should be sent in just as soon as you know you are going to do this training. The balance of unpaid fees is due on the first day of class. If, for any reason, the training were cancelled, a full refund would be tendered. WFA / WFR Recertification enrollees who cancel before the start of the training will receive a refund for the amount already tendered, less a $50 cancellation fee. Late cancellations may forfeit the entire deposit.

Locations:
Location in Durango is the Mason Center - 12th Street and Third Avenue.

Location in Norwood is the Norwood Community Center, 1670 Naturita.

Location in Golden is at the American Mountaineering Center, 710 10th Street, Golden, Conference Room D.

Dress comfy, be prepared to work outside, and bring your water bottle, plus your mug for tea, cocoa, or coffee. Bring a notebook and pen (First Lead WFR Grads: bring your prior training ring binder).

Pets:
No pets are allowed, under any circumstances.

First Aid Gear, Supplies, Books:
There will be an opportunity to purchase selected first aid gear and supplies - good stuff. A textbook is included for the training: Mountaineering First Aid.

Upon successful completion of the training, WFR's will receive First Lead's 3-year Wilderness First Responder certification. WFA students will get First Lead's 3-year Wilderness First Aid certification. Both will receive Red Cross Adult CPR certifications.
